Description

The Radiographer is a certified technician who captures radiographic images of organs, bone, and tissue for patient diagnosis. He/she is equipped with the technological skills to handle imaging equipment and the interpersonal skills necessary for patient care.

Responsibilities/ Requirements

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses patients and their clinical requirements to determine appropriate radiographic techniques.

  • Observes and maintains contact with patients during their waiting, examination and post-examination stay in the department.

  • Performs a range of radiographic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images.

  • Assists in more complex radiological examinations, working with radiologists and doctors and surgeons.

  • Providing support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and other medical personnel.

  • Records imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately and observe protocols to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and patient confidentiality.

  • Understands and observes health and safety at work and welfare issues, including ionizing radiation regulations, to protect yourself and others.

  • Ensures that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and any faults are reported by use of the required protocol.

  • Have a flexible approach to work so that urgent cases can be facilitated as necessary.

  • Facilitates departmental efficiency by assuming the responsibilities of a more Senior Officer if that Officer is absent. This should only apply for a limited period.

  • Liaises and communicates with all other staff in a courteous and helpful manner at all times to carry out any other duties as required by your manager or the service needs.

  • Participates in flexible working arrangements to include working on evenings/weekends and holidays/ shift rotations/on call duty/ out of hours working, subject to the needs of the department.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Bachelors Degree in Radiologic Technology and/or Radiography

  1. Must be computer literate with data base programs, Microsoft Word and Excel.

  1. Must be able to communicate efficiently both orally, in writing and with emails.

  1. Required to use discretion and skill in dealing with sensitive areas of the hospital’s maintenance.

  1. Must be properly attired at all times.

  1. Must be courteous to both internal and external customers.

  1. Must be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the post.
