Description

The House Officer will be responsible for diagnosing and administering general medical treatment to patients at Mount St. John’s Medical Centre or its annexed facilities.  His /her duty involves the examination of patients, performing investigations and carrying out necessary medical treatment in the prevention and control of diseases.  He/she will also be required to assist in major operations.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the professional superior.

Responsibilities/ Requirements

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties of the House Officer are many and varied and also depend on the specialty to which he/she is assigned.  However, the following responsibilities are likely to be carried out on a daily basis.

  1. Admitting patients.
  2. Interviewing and examining patients.
  3. Ensuring that investigations are done and the appropriate treatment is carried out.
  4. Making notes, referrals and discharge summaries.
  5. Monitoring and providing care to patients on the wards, in outpatient clinics and annexed facilities.
  6. Liaising with other medical staff in the hospital to ensure quality treatment.

  1. Working with other doctors as part of the team, both in the same department and within other specialties.
  2. Providing specific treatments e.g. performing and assisting in procedures and operations.
  3. Teaching and evaluating of Interns, Medical Students and Nurses.
  4. Health education presentations.

House Officer will be issued a cellular phone and therefore must always be accessible in the eventualities of emergencies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Medical Degree from an accredited University
  • Completed Internship Program
  • Must currently hold a license to practice Medicine in Antigua & Barbuda without restrictions
  • CAMC 1 – 2 or its equivalent

Experience:

  • 1 – 5 years’ experience
