Description
The Consultant Physician is responsible for delivering high-quality medical care to patients admitted electively or as emergencies at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC). This role involves diagnosing, treating, and managing patient care while contributing to the development of department services and ensuring compliance with clinical and administrative standards. The Consultant Physician will collaborate with colleagues, participate in medical education, and have opportunities to pursue subspecialty interests. Additionally, the role supports private medical care services within SLBMC, fostering an environment of excellence in patient care and professional growth.
Responsibilities/ Requirements
GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Consultant Physician is responsible for the provision of proper and efficient medical care to all patients admitted, electively or as an emergency, to his/her firm/unit as an inpatient or referred to him/her in the outpatient clinic of Mount St John’s Medical Centre (MSJMC).
- In pursuit of the above he/she is expected to initiate diagnostic, therapeutic and investigative procedures after appropriate appraisal either on ward-rounds or otherwise.
- The Consultant Physician is expected to take part fully whether clinically and/or administratively, in the development of the services proved by the department for patients of MSJMC.
- The Consultant Physician is, in a general way, expected to share the workload equally with his/her Consultant colleagues in the department, under the general direction of the head of the department. Every opportunity will be given where possible for Consultant Physician to pursue their professional interest in subspecialties.
- The Consultant Physician is encouraged to participate in the teaching of Medical Students and Post Graduate doctors attached to the department.
- Provision is made for, and appropriate facilities are available to Consultants to provide private medical care to both in and outpatients of MSJMC.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- A Doctorate of Medicine Degree
- Must currently hold a license to practice Medicine in Antigua & Barbuda as a Specialist without restrictions.
- Must hold Consultant status under MSJMC’s Medical Staff Bylaws.
