Description

Emergence physicians typically work in hospital emergency rooms or urgent care clinics, serving patients who have life-threatening conditions. Their primary job functions are to resuscitate or stabilize patients and refer them to the appropriate medical departments.

Responsibilities/ Requirements

JOB DUTIES

  • Assesses a patient's condition to determine the severity of the problem
  • Speaks with patients to elicit their medical history and learn the details of a patient's ailments. 
  • Requests necessary tests for patients
  • Perform physical examinations to diagnose and treat patients
  • Stabilizes patients and refer patients to a specialist, such as a surgeon, as necessary.
  • Admit patients to the hospital and discharge patients whom they've treated.
  • Perform a wide range of medical procedures.
  • Leads the ER team and provides instructions and direction to other team members regarding the specific actions to take with a patient.
  • Keeps patients informed about their conditions and treatment.
  • Update patient's family on a patient's diagnosis and prognosis.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATION

  • Requires a degree in medicine from an accredited school and is licensed to practice.
  • May require at least 2-4 years of emergency unit experience.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs a variety of tasks.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
